Meeting report:

Laryngectomy Patient Days

GLASGOW 22 SEPTEMBER & SWANSEA 21 OCTOBER 2016

NALC in conjunction with Countrywide/Atos held two patient days.

The event in Glasgow started at 9.30am and finished at 4pm with various speakers including our President Malcom Babb giving an update on NALCs work.  During the coffee and lunch breaks laryngectomees, carers and healthcare professionals were able to browse the stands.  NALC had a stand displaying all our literature and emergency items.  We met many new people from Scotland and also lots of old friends.

The day in Swansea was similar to the Glasgow day.  The stand out speaker was Mr Conor Marnane,  Head and Neck Consultant he gave a talk on the history of the laryngectomy operation.  Gloria Tuck NALCs vice president gave a talk on her involvement with NALC.  We also had a stand and were  able to help many new larynectomees with their enquiries.

NALC & Cancer focus Northern Ireland hosted their annual Head & Neck Patient day at Crumlin Road Gaol.  This event was well attended and Alex McGuiggan NALCs treasurer attends this event.

Laryngectomy Conference

NALC was invited to have a stand at Severn Healthcare Advanced Topics in Laryngectomy Conference, that was held in Birmingham on 1st & 2nd November.  The conference was for healthcare professionals.  NALC had lots of visitors to the stand and many new contacts were made.

European Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week

NALC and its clubs organised events to increase awareness of early signs of the disease and also to raise funds to support our work.
